Sony Cyber shot DSC TX5

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 digital camera is a slim, stylish pocket digital camera that has a secret: It's waterproof. The Sony TX5 is based around the combination of a 10.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor and a 4x optical zoom lens. The Sony TX5's sensor is what's known as a backside illuminated (BSI) design, meaning that its circuitry is placed on the non-light-gathering side of the sensor, allowing the maximum area of the sensor's other side to be devoted to light gathering. This should translate to higher sensitivity, and to reduced noise levels when compared to a non-BSI sensor for the same sensitivity. Actual focal lengths vary from 4.43mm to 17.7mm, equivalent to a range of 25 to 100mm in still image mode.

Everything on this Pentax falls readily beneath finger or thumb which makes for swifter overall operation; this is down to both sufficiently large controls, a smaller form factor than a DSLR proper and also the fact that Pentax has not overburdened the X90 with extraneous buttons.

Panasonic LUMIX DMC FX66

The Lumix DMC-FX66 is a 14.1 megapixel point-and-shoot digital camera from Panasonic, set to be released in February 2010. This slim camera features the “Venus Engine VI,” which Panasonic claims allows for faster operation and reduced noise when taking photos. With a 5x zoom and an ultra-wide-angle lens, average users should find enough flexibility with this Lumix to perfect their shots. On the back of the camera users will find a 2.7” LCD screen for previewing and reviewing content. Casual photographers will likely enjoy the ‘Happy Mode” option, which automatically applies a vivid color filter to photos and video. Up to 720p resolution movies can be recorded. Pentax Optio E90

The E90 is the entry-level unit in the series and, in fact, the dullest as well, which is evident by its lackluster design. On the bright side, the E90 is also the cheapest, but sit till delivers everything needed from a basic compact camera: a 10MP sensor for high-quality still captures; VGA video recording; and SD/SDHC memory expansion. Additional features include a 2.7” display, USB/AV connectivity, and two color options: red & black. Unfortunately, the E90 relies on conventional AA batteries.

Nikon Coolpix S6000

The Nikon Coolpix S6000 is a sleek, user-friendly compact ultra zoom camera with a surprisingly long 7x optical zoom (a 35mm equivalent lens range of 28mm to 196mm). The S6000 was my constant companion during the two weeks I had it for review. We endured some of the hottest weather the Washington, D.C. area had seen in quite a while. Throughout my experience shooting with the camera, I was continually impressed with its small size, quick operation and, above all, its ability to produce accurate colors. Let's examine this interesting camera more closely.

Samsung TL500 aka EX1

The Samsung EX1 digital camera is sure to turn heads thanks to its f/1.8 Schneider lens. The impressive f/1.8 lens offers photographers a wider range of aperture steps and shallow depth-of-field, giving them the ability to blur out the background of their images while maintaining focus on their subjects. The ultra-fast, f/1.8 lens also allows users to take better photos in low-light environments as more light is passed through to the new high-performance

I was looking for a compact camera, but one with good low-light capabilities to make photo's indoors and great manual controls. I usually use a dslr, but I tkink it's to big to carry all the time and I don't want to look like "the photographer" all the time.

It takes great shots. It's very easy to use. Had it under water a few times. Took it out on my boat and water came in the back and front. Sent it back to Samsung to have fixed and received it back with additional problems. I'm not too happy. So, I have owned the camera a month and have had it in my possession about 2 weeks.

Sanyo X1220

Sanyo Europe has announced three new digicams, the Sanyo X1420, X1220 and S122. The star of the trio is the Sanyo X1420 with its 14-megapixel sensor, 3” monitor, SDXC card support, HD movie capture and 28-112mm equivalent 4x optical zoom. The Sanyo 1220 and the Sanyo S122 are simpler cameras, with 12-megapixel imagers, 3x zoom lenses and VGA video. The main difference between the two is that the cheaper Sanyo S122 (pictured) is powered by AA batteries.

Sounds promising and the pricing is really cheap, I just hope the image quality lives up to the expectations. Loads of megapixels always seem to sell well, but they don't really make a good camera.

Nikon Coolpix S4000

The S4000 has a lot going for it in terms of its general aesthetic. Its smooth, sleek facade definitely helps the attractiveness factor, and perhaps hides a few of its internal flaws.
Also on the exterior is a 27mm wide-angle lens that hits 4x optical zoom, with an aperture range of f/3.2-5.9. There's a small flash positioned next to the Nikon logo, as well as an AF assist light at the top right of the front panel. The teeny tiny shutter button is surrounded by a zoom rocker and alongside it, the power button is flush with the camera body. Our test unit was a splendid fuchsia, but it also comes in a glossy black finish. Most people don't set out to buy a touchscreen camera, so the S4000 sits in a peculiar market segment. It's a compact and attractive model so this will lure potential buyers, but image quality issues and the temperamental nature of the touchscreen don't live up to expectations.
